In the comments to my blog regarding a letter to Karen and Jan, a commenter has asked What is Reg Day? I initially was going to respond in the comment section but thought that Reg Day deserves it’s own blog.

Reg Day 2006 was actually held on Saturday, November 18th. Previous years, Reg Day was held in October. This is the first year of a new tradition where Reg Day was held in November because November is National Adoption Awareness Month.

Like I said earlier Reg Day is an annual event to increase public awareness of the International Soundex Reunion Registry, which is more commonly known and referred to as the ISRR.

The ISRR is a non profit mutual consent registry dedicated to reuniting adult family members separated by adoption, divorce, or other ways of family separation and has reunited thousands of adults all over the world. The ISRR has even been featured in the Dear Abby column almost 10 years ago. The link for a copy of the letter and response is http://www.plumsite.com/isrr/abby.htm

SPONSOR

The volunteers of the Adoption Registration Coalition organizes Reg Day. Reg Day is usually hosted by search and support groups, activists, and those interested in adoption reform at many sites nationwide. Some of the local shops that have agreed to host Reg Day with area search and support groups is Borders, Barnes & Noble and some independent book stores. These tables are staffed and set up by volunteers with ISRR registration forms, informational brochures, and lists of resources helpful to those interested in search and adoption reform. Assistance can be provided in filling out the ISRR registration form and referrals to local resources provided.
