Advice From Adoptees Searching for Birth Family

This post by an adoptee who is searching is a "must read." I would mention the name of her blog, but it contains a word that I am fairly certain is taboo. Just found her blog recently and read several insightful posts that I liked a great deal.

Maybe part of why I enjoy her posts is her bluntness. Also, I understand her sense of humor. Be forewarned that if you are super-sensitive, her language might offend you. If it does, keep it to yourself or tell me, not her!

She discusses her relationship with her adoptive mom and her dislike for those adoption poems that circulate. You know the ones - mentioning growing in the heart - two mothers, each one with its one distinct purposes. She actually rewrote that poem and provides her own version of it. I found it amusing. Others may not find it as funny, particularly some adoptive parents.

However, I especially liked her top ten stupid things people often say to adoptees can be useful to read. In the same vein, a good friend of mine also has some advice for adoptive parents in his lastest post. My son told me that as an adoptee, he often gets asked for advice. One friend of his decided on an open adoption as opposed to a closed one mainly because my son's input persuaded her of the benefits of open adoption.

This post of Wraith's was written in response to his requests for feedback to adoptive parents. Wraith has wonderfully supportive and loving adoptive parents. His adoptive mom reads his blog and supports his attempts to find his birth mother.

Wraith has taught me alot about the adoptee experience. He is a great guy, was brought up by good people and has a good life. However, he still has a need to reconnect with some birth family.

Love you :) Thank you :)
I also love having the word 'taboo' associated with me. It's such an fun word. It makes me think of the roaring times I had during my bulimic twenties. They were much more taboo than the times I have now in my emotional eating forties ;)

I have been searching for my birth relatives for several months now. I haven’t found my birth mom yet but I did locate several of my cousins using Search Pirate. I entered my birth family name and my state and it pulled up several people. I contacted a few of them and they turned out to be my cousins. They have been helpful in helping me in my search for my birth mom and any siblings I may have. http://www.search-pirate.com/
