As I read other bloggers’ thoughts on Halloween this morning, I began to reflect on past Halloweens and recalled which stood out in my mind the most. Since my children are grown now, my most recent memories are of three much loved grandchildren.
On a recent weekend, my granddaughter proudly showed me her costume for this year. She had a prepackaged combo this year, and as she pulled out the pieces from the bag, she explained each item in great detail. At eight years old, she is very articulate!
Eventually, she decided that she needed to try on her costume to show me how it looked. This year she is a girl pirate with a bandanna, a shirt with cross-bones on it and other matching accessories. We discussed whether or not she needed some sort of a sword, but she wisely told me that it would be too hard to carry. She needed to be hands-free to carry all her loot.

My next memory was years back before my granddaughter was even born yet. One Halloween, my daughter brought the boys over in costume. We had talked about the possibility of her bringing them over, but she wasn't certain that she would have time.I remember how excited I was answering the door and seeing my two grandsons all dressed up. Somewhere I have a photo that I took of that night of the boys.
Other memories include two different Halloweens with my sons. One year, I got really creative and put together a nifty clown costume for M. He was going to a cub scout costume party. My creativity is usually limited as far as costumes go. However, that particular year, I outdid myself and M. won a prize at the party. Somewhere, there is a photo of M. with other prizewinners that appeared in a local newspaper. I should look for it and show it to his wife the new time they are visiting.
