As I have written about several time this month, November is National Adoption Month. On the ABC talk show, earlier this week, The View had a segment dedicated to adoption.
There are over a half million children waiting for a home to call their own and The View welcomed a few of the faces of foster care and the families who have opened their hearts and lives to come and share their inspiring and heartwarming stories.
One of the guest, Victoria Rowell, who was a special guest co host on the show and is also an actress talked about her life and her experience was like growing up in foster care. In addition, they had two representatives from programs dedicated to helping children find homes. The first was the executive director of the Heart Gallery. She explained her the organization encourages talented photographers to volunteer their time and capture the individual spirits of children in need of loving homes in order to raise awareness of potential foster parents. The other guest was the assistant director of adoptuskids.org. She discussed that the organizations mission is to recruit and connect foster and adoptive parents with children waiting to be adopted. In addition, there were stories from real families whose lives have been touched by the foster care system.

These stories included a couple Rosie had met on a cruise when she noticed their two beautiful adopted daughters, a single adoptive mom who proved that age, race and marital status don’t matter to making all the difference in a child’s life when she shared her story of adopting two children of a different race while still in her twenties, and an 18 year old who gave home to every child waiting for a home when he and his adoptive parents explained how growing up in the foster care system made him stronger. The final quest was a set of three siblings that were featured in Rosie’s magazine about 5 years ago. Rose had recently learned they have found a loving home and they were also a part of the show.
