As I was reading AdoptionWeekly emagazine's
current issue recently, I noticed
an article about another great registry for adoption searches.
Reunions Mean Success for Longtime Carson City Nonprofit - Nevada Appeal
After 31 years in the profession of matching lost family members, the small staff of this Carson City nonprofit agency have piles of thank-you letters and a database full of more than 200,000 active registrations. And they have their own stories of reunion and disappointment.
International Soundex Reunion Registry ("ISRR") is one of the best publicized registries in adoption circles. Like the registry at Reunite.com (which is affiliated with Adoption.com), I do know of reunions which have resulted from their registry. One positive part about reunions which occur from reunion registries is that both parties know from the start that the desire for contact is mutual.

"ISRR", also known as "Soundex" has facilitated many reunions over the years. I know one birth mom who registered and found out within days that her son had also registered. Because registering is an inexpensive, and often free avenue to reunite, it should definitely be a first step. I recommend that searchers sign first with ISRR and the registry at Reunite.com. Next, if their state has a registry, it is worth signing up. Then sign up with as many free registries as you can keep up with.
Remember to keep your registration information current wherever you register. Several times I have heard of people locating potential birth family members on registries, and then finding out that their contact information is not current. To locate a potential family member, and then be unable to contact them is frustrating. It is vitally information to keep your contact information current on any registries that you have signed up for. Lastly, if you do find the object of your search, notify the registries to take your name off their database.
