Some of you may be following the recovery of the two kidnapped boys in St. Louis, MO area. I was reading an article on line at http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/01/14/boys.found.ap/index.html and through the article learned of an adoption connection.
The article states “Devlin's childhood neighbors told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that Devlin was adopted and one of six children. Sarah Sullivan described him as a quiet child in an otherwise outgoing family. He was always big for his age and avoided sports. He had a hot temper and spent a lot of time in his room, she said.”
It will be interesting to see what the media does with this piece of information and whether or not the media will try to uncover Devlin’s biological beginnings. I think it would be sad for the natural mother who had hoped to giver her child all the best she could, would realize what became of her natural son. For the sake of the natural mother, I hope that the media handles this with some kind of dignity. It seems that the media can be cruel at times.

I am in no way saying that I think that being adopted has any relevance. I am not even sure why the neighbor pointed this fact out. Do you or others in society believe that the adoption aspect has something to do with the situation? There are folks out there that are not adopted that have acted in a criminal way. Doesn’t the media and television seem to promote that if you are adopted you may be a criminal?
I have a couple of examples. My husband and I like to watch the reruns of Law & Order and Without a Trace. A recent Law& Order episode we watched recently there is an adoptee who commits murder to get part of her biological inheritance. The DA makes a comment about how this is why records should be sealed.
