We feel that with her death, the case of the 'missing' records has been closed. With all probability the records have been destroyed, closing many of the older adoption searches, without the chance of solving these cases.
Many of the ladies there were using nicknames or false names to protect themselves and their families. During many years, their own names were never used. With these records gone there is no way to successfully do a search. These names were not given to the court, except on the actual adoption decree that was given to the adoptive family at the time the adoption was finalized. Most of the families were also given the crib card or lab reports with the birthmother's first name on it. If the adoptee has this paperwork the probability of finding increases greatly.
This was from a Marilyn Fleming, don't know where she was from. Obviously familiar with KC Willows. Also there was a very interesting article on the Willows in the KC Star Magazine from the Sunday paper on December 29, 1991. You might get a copy of that article from the KC Public Library downtown or possibly the Star itself. It's the main (only) newspaper in town I believe.
Also this is copied from a 1962 KC City Directory:
The Willows Maternity Sanitarium Inc.; Don D. Haworth, Pres.; David Charlson, V-Pres.; Mrs. Garnet M. Haworth, Supt.; Mrs. Maudene B. Lowe, Asst. Supt.; Established 1905. A seclusion maternity sanitarium exclusively for the better class unmarried women.
