The language barrier may be an issue and it is important to have a successful conversations. Where your international search is taking place, English may not be their first language so it may be necessary to locate a resource that can translate communications and is competent in reading between the lines of answers that are given or perhaps withheld.
Adoption search may be more accepted in the United States but the concept of search for adoptees and others in the adoption triad is not easily understood and may still be considered controversial. Some countries may find it even more difficult to understand. I think that one fear of the country sending the child for adoption is that the child will lose their birth heritage and identity. With that said I would hope that many countries would be willing to assist adoptees in their search.

The laws and policies of international adoption search are under the authority of individual countries. This includes files and records. This also means that you need to comply with US state and federal laws and the over seas laws as well. We all know that laws vary state to states as do the policies of adoption agencies who were involved in the initial adoption placement.
All adoption searches are emotional and can be intense at times. Even if you are contemplating a search it can be emotional. This is a life decision and like other life decisions that you have made it requires soul searching. Some may need to seek a professional to sort out their feelings to help them see things clearly in the decision making process.
It might be helpful to talk with other adoptees that have searched internationally and learn from their experience. When thinking about what you want to do consider your motivations, objectives, time frame, resources, and boundaries before physically beginning the search process. An adoption search may change present relationships. Your decision should not be based on or influenced by others thoughts and feelings or because your adoptive parents want you to. Be sure your decision to search is based on your own thoughts, feelings, and beliefs.
