The week between Christmas and New Years has become one of my favorite times of the year. It is a perfect time to reflect on the past and see what has been learned about ourselves and our lives. It is also a perfect time to look into the New Year and to consider hopes, dreams, desires and how you want to continue on in your life. I personally like to spend some time thinking about four things and I will share those with you.

The first is I like to think about and acknowledge my accomplishments that I feel have experienced in the past year. I think about my career, business, relationships, health, adoption experience, emotions, and other areas of my life that I may have not mentioned here.

The second is that I decide what I want to leave behind in the previous year. It may be something that I believe, negativity, relationships that aren’t necessarily healthy for me, a bad habit, etc. It is usually something that I don’t feel I need or want to continue to be a part of my life. For example, this year, I have chosen to give up smoking. My husband and I have been smoke free sine midnight January 1st. Grant you it is only our 2nd day but we are determined to leave this behind and not have it continue to be a part of our lives.

The third think I like to consider is all the positive things in my life that I consider to be a blessing and express those feelings of gratitude and joy to those around me. It may be a simple thank you to something more elaborate. It really depends on your own personality and what you are comfortable with.

The last think that I consider is what I would like to see in the following year. It may be resolutions or intentions. I have found that the more detailed I am the more likely I am to stick to my goal and keeps me more focused.

2007 has lots to offer for our immediate and extended family and we are looking forward to the upcoming events that we know of and welcome the new family members that will be joining us throughout the year through birth and marriage with open arms.
