“Grief and sadness knits two hearts in closer bonds than happiness ever can; and common sufferings are far stronger than common joys”
Alphonse de Lamartine
When I began blogging at AdoptionBlogs.com, I was delighted to know that Heather Lowe was planning to blog about crisis pregnancy. Though I had never met Heather, I was intimately familiar with a booklet that she had written called
What You Should Know if You Are Considering Adoption for Your Baby. This booklet is well-respected amongst birth mothers and others and is on the (Concerned United Birthparents ("CUB") website. So many of us are so grateful that this booklet now exists. Most birth mothers that I know wish that we had the benefit of such an honest booklet. Not so long ago on one of the forums at Adoption.com, the grandmother of an almost birth mother remarked this booklet was a big factor in her daughter deciding to parent.

After I read the booklet mentioned above, I came across
this article of Heather's about reforms needed in Adoption. It was written not too long after Heather's son was born. She mentions in the article that he was born the previous November, and now he is 7 years old I believe.
Both articles are written with passion, honesty and fairness. Heather and I are generations apart, yet we have very similar views about adoption. Neither of us is anti-adoption. We are realistic enough to know that there is a place for necessary and ethical adoptions - adoptions that are based on full disclosure and lacking in undue pressure. However, we both agree that there is plenty of work to be done to insure that more adoptions do meet those standards.
Here is a discussion between adoptee Marcy Axness and Heather about "When Does Adoption Begin." I found it an interesting discussion. I will probably blog about it later.
