What are post adoption issues? Why do we need to know about them? How do we respond to them? This event will focus on the issues and concerns that arise in families created by adoption and foster care. They will discuss ways to approach these issues and the best techniques with which to respond to them for the wellbeing of the child and his/her family. This event is for natural parents, adoptive parents, adoptees, professionals, and any other interested adults.
At the Center for Family Connections there will be a group meeting titled Care for the Caregivers led by Jenny Basa, MA on Thursdays from 5:15PM – 6;45PM on January 18, January 25th, February 1st, February 8th, and February 15th. The fee is $260 for the series.

Parents take so much time taking care of their children, what about them? This group is designed for parents who ideally currently have children seeking services at CFFC. It will be an opportunity for parents to come together as a community and share stories, struggles, and also be a time they take for themselves honoring the joys and hardships of being an adoptive parent. Each group member will leave with a self-concept collage, a support network of other adoptive parents, and time to feel cared for as an individual.
As you can see from above, the group will meet 5 times, the 5th being a “social” for parents to bring their children and mix and mingle with a pot luck dinner. The hope of this group is for parents to form a support network and honor their identity as an adoptive parent.
Acting Out! Another event led by Judy Hu, MA and Julie Casella on Thursdays from 5:15PM-6:45PM on January 18, January 25, February 1, February 8, and February 15. The fee for this series is $275.
Feelings are often hard to understand and verbalize. Through the use of art and drama, children (ages 6-9) will create their own puppets to Act out the complexities of growing up, making friends, and explaining the different ways families are formed. Supplies will be provided.
EZine Project led by Melissa St. John, LMFT on Mondays from 6:00PM – 7:30PM on January 22nd, January 29th, February 5th, February 12th, and February 26th. The fee for the series is $250.
Ezine is a noun which is individual expressive collections created through artistic modalities (collage, drawing, creative writing, poetry, etc)
This group is for teens aged 13-18 who have been adopted or raised in foster homes and will provide the opportunity to explore their identity while creating a personal magazine.
