Can She Find Birth Dad by Fathers' Day? - Part 1

About a week ago, an on-line adoptee friend of mine (let's call her D.) emailed me and asked for a favor. She had decided to find her birth dad and asked me if I'd make the initial call if she found him. Several years ago, she found her birth mom and had gotten her birth dad's name from her.

D. decided only recently that she was ready to search for her birth dad. The fact that Father's Day was looming was part of the reason compelling her to try now. She was looking only in the state her birth mom and father were living in when she was conceived. Her birth mom was only 15 years old when she got pregnant after being with birth dad once. When her parents discovered the pregnancy, they packed her up and shipped her off to a maternity home in an adjoining state and arranged for her baby ("D")to be adopted.

D. gave me the scant info she had about her birth dad and I asked her if I could give it to a searcher friend. I knew she could probably help nail down the right man. Then, I spent a few hours playing around on the computer checking various data base.

Birth Dad's name was very common, but, there were only a few men listed with his name in the state around the right age group. There were many listed with no ages, however. Remember, birth mom had only spent one evening with him, so, she did not know a great deal about him.

I forwarded what D. had given me onto my searcher friend. She came up with the same man that I had also found who was in the right age group. We knew only that he was a few years older than birth mom. Although I couldn't find a phone number in data bases for him, my searcher friend found one for him.

Next, I asked D if she wanted me to try calling to determine if this man was her birth dad. "Yes, please do," she said. I tried a few nights later, but, kept getting an answer machine.
