Adoption Issues - Part 1

This photo is one that I took a few years ago in Paris. Don't ask what it has to do with the subject of this blog - there is no correlation. I just liked this photo and wanted to use it!

Our new adoptee blogger Jupe is not an anguished adoptee who blames every problem or issue in her life on her adoption. In fact, in her past few blogs she has said that she is hard pressed to identify issues that are specific to adoption (or words to that effect.) I commented that I do believe that there are some issues that are unique to adoptees. Jupe's response is below.

I would be really interested to know more specifically what you think some of those unique issues are, as I am trying hard to understand. Thanks...

Issues that are unique to adoptees - since Jupe is an adoptee, and I am not, I feel a tad bold to be even discussing this issue. However, I am bold if nothing else. I will discuss some issues that the adoptees in my life indicate are issues for them.

Jupe's thoughts on adoption sound much like my son's opinions on the subject. He has told me that he believes that some adoptees play the victim role too much and he does not attribute any of his issues to his adoption. I have my own thoughts on the subject, but I won't go into them here.

I do agree wholeheartedly with Jupe that whether you are an adoptee, birth parent or adoptive parent, you need to deal with the cards/issues that have presented themselves to you. Blaming adoption or anything else for how your life has turned out can in some ways be a cope-out. However, I also believe adoption does affect one's life.

I do agree believe that there is a time in life when everyone needs to take charge of their lives and shape them into their own view of how it should be. No matter what has happened in your past, you have the ability to control the rest of your life to a great extent. However, adoption affects people often in major ways.
