Actress Jessica Simpson began her foray into adoption with the statement below:

"I want to adopt, and I plan to adopt before I have my own kids," Simpson told Extra.

Her "own" children? If she adopts children, won't those children be her "own" kids too?

Other bloggers have written about the fact that adoption seems to be a fad at the moment among Hollywood actresses. Simpson at 25 years old and recently divorced was quoted as saying that she was inspired by actress Angelina Jolie. She mentions that international adoptions skyrocketed just since Angelina adopted. Angelina Jolie did indeed adopt twice before becoming pregnant to her "own" child.

Call me cynical, but, after reading this article, I do have concerns about the motives of some Hollywood starlets who are adopting. Adopting a child really does seem to be a guaranteed avenue to gain some press coverage these days.

Now I know, I am probably being very unfair and judgmental here. Maybe Ms. Simpson will be a totally great adoptive mom. Or, maybe it is just a passing fad for her and she won't really forge ahead and adopt?

Slap me, I know I'm being a tad petty here, but, I just keep thinking about that Super Bowl commercial with Jessica Simpson. Remember the one? Hips swinging, she seductively swaggers up to a young boy and makes a suggestive comment to him? I believe it is a commercial about pizza? "So what, you might say, that has nothing to do with her suitabilty as a parent." I know, I really do know that it doesn't.

Starting her journey implying that the children she might adopt will not be her "own" though does bode well though, in my mind anyway. I guess I should be hopeful and remember that she may learn? We all have learning curves in adoption, right?

Ah, I think it just may be old age setting in! I remember years ago when Mia Farrow (so dating myself mentioning her)adopted quite a few children. She never appeared to seek praise and adoration for adopting. Each adoption was not a news headline with her seeking another pat on the back. From outward appearances, she appeared to be a stable, maternal person who might be a good mom.

What an wacky world we live in today! Maybe Angelina and Jessica Simpson will both surprise me. I can hope so, right!
