Angels are one of my favorite things. I love them for their beauty, and for what they are–guardians. Angels are loving, kind, and show selflessness in their acts. The angels with in the adoption community are referred to as Adoption Search Angels.
An adoption search angel volunteers his or her time to help triad members seek answers in their adoption search. These search angels can help a natural parent locate and old yearbook so that he or she can see the child she placed for adoption. Some search angels will explore registries to help triad members find answers.
The bottom line is that a search angel is a person just like you or me. They often times have completed their search and have found peace within themselves. They are people who want to give back to the adoption community and help other families find peace with their questions.
You also should prepare yourself for what to expect when working with an adoption search angel. Most adoption search angels will not or don’t do research for minor children (under the age of 18); make contact for a searcher if the search angel is not a professional intermediary, pressure any one to make contact once the lost family is located, and finally should not charge for their services. A volunteer search angel can ask for reimbursement for phone calls, copies, postage, and bus fare or any other legitimate expense incurred while doing the search.
In addition don’t expect for all of their time. As a volunteer search angel many are more than likely helping many triad members at the same time. With that said don’t expect a quick outcome. It is important to not start or begin any search if you are not ready for the answers that may be found. Be prepared for anything, hope for the best as anything and everything can happen.
