Dr. Joyce Brothers

Well, in my opinion, Dr. Joyce Brothers' response was better than Ann Landers or Dear Abby.

An adoptee named Will wrote to Dr. Joyce Brothers who stated his circumstances as being a college student. He was adopted as a baby through a private adoption. After he graduated high school, he had been thinking of trying to find out about his natural parents. He has never shared this with his adoptive parents and feels very guilty. He asked Dr. Brothers if he should tell... more

I thought this was a great adoption reunion story and I wanted to share it with the blog. Is your adoption group looking for a way to present the triad viewpoint to people in the media or simply to non-triad members? GRC’s program, Voices of Adoption, literally gives voice to the triad experience.

The program grew out of an awareness of some basic facts about the adoption journey from the standpoint of an adoptee. In 2000, GRC’s national coordinator,... more

A Princess? Really?

I found this story to be very thought provoking.

In her family's village of Bumpe, the people rejoiced in the news of their newly discovered princess, someone they'd come to regard as a potential savior.

It was a job she wasn't sure she wanted.

I have heard some adoptees say that they fantasized about what their birth parents were like as they were growing up. Other adoptees will scarcely acknowledge that they ever thought of their... more

I had a little blanket and thought, "We'll pass this on to our son's new parents." And I remember the woman saying, "They won't be needing the blanket."

A birth mom/writer that I know is featured in the latest issue of "People" magazine. She is an author who wrote this book about her adoption reunion story. She and two other reunited birth moms and the children that they were reunited with are featured in an article. The article that... more
